Automotive steel sheets are also called automotive sheets. Based on the production process characteristics, they are divided into hot-rolled steel sheets, cold-rolled steel sheets and coated steel sheets; based on the strength, they can be divided into: ordinary steel sheets, low-alloy high-strength steel sheets (HSLA), ordinary high-strength steel sheets (high-strength IF steel, BH steel, phosphorus-containing steel and IS steel, etc.) and advanced high-strength steel sheets (AHSS), etc. Automotive steel sheets are mainly used for automotive parts such as door inner panels and trunk covers; and exterior coverings such as automotive door outer panels and engine covers.

In the blast furnace, the iron ore is reduced to pig iron containing about 4% carbon and a small amount of alloying elements. Subsequently, the pig iron is refined into steel in a converter (BOF), and then continuously cast into semi-finished products such as billets, bars or slabs, and finally processed into finished products such as bars, plates, rails, H-beams or I-beams through a rolling process. The secondary processing method, also known as the mini-mill process, mainly uses scrap steel to melt in an electric arc furnace (EAF). The molten steel may need to be further processed in a ladle furnace, after which it also undergoes continuous casting and rolling. Initially, small steel mills mainly produced low-grade products such as rebar, but their market share has increased significantly in recent years. The direct reduction method uses high-grade iron ore pellets as raw materials and uses natural gas to reduce them into sponge iron pellets. The sponge iron pellets are then sent to an electric arc furnace for smelting, and the resulting steel is also continuously cast and rolled to form.
